Creative Writing is an nine-weeks-long course that explores different genres of writing, through engaging activities, as well as the other necessary elements needed to improve writing and composition skills. This course is designed with the goal of inspiring students to develop original pieces and ideas. Through writing and thinking, students will learn to become better readers, writers, and thinkers.
1) Creative Writing
Students will focus on unlocking their imagination. The tutoring sessions will include a series of guided writing exercises to teach students the core facets of creative writing, namely: Character Development, Plot Sequencing, Dialogue, and Emotional/Descriptive Expression.
2) Essay Writing
Students will work on their research-based writing skills. The core steps of essay writing (such as thesis development, outlining, drafting, editing, and revising) will be taught to students.
3) Persuasive Writing
Students will learn how to write powerful pieces that express opinions and/or aim to convince the audience. Many students struggle with how to express their opinions. These sessions will take a student through the entire journey: from formulating an opinion to hunting for appropriate evidence and using appropriate persuasion techniques.
4) Review Writing
Students will learn how to write reviews of other pieces of writing. Through a series of examples and exercises, they will work on their skills of objective critiques.
5) Business Writing
Students will simulate real-life situations in order to learn how to write in business and professional settings. This is especially useful for older students to learn about writing business articles, emails, resumes, cover letters, and more.
6) Grammar Lessons
Depending on the grade level of the students, these will focus solely on grammar and workbook exercises in order to teach students the appropriate rules of grammar (including punctuation and sentence structure).
